“I was extremely proud to be able to march in honor of the vets. I believe it was my own little way of saying thanks for the sacrifices they made for our country,” senior saxophone player Nathanial Ellis said.

The Skyline Raider Band, Silhouettes, Silk team and varsity cheerleaders are now looking forward to marching in the Children’s Christmas Parade this December.

The Skyline Raider Band, Silhouettes, Silk team and JROTC participated in the annual Veterans’ Day parade on Monday, Nov. 11 in Downtown Dallas.

The band members began marching at Reunion Arena and ended in front of City Hall.

Head band director William Young was especially excited to take part in the parade because the event was very close to his heart.

“My oldest brother has served in the military for over 24 years, so I truly support the veterans,” he said. “I’m overjoyed to share this experience with my students.”

The Silhouettes and Silk team members were also ecstatic about marching in the parade after putting in long hours of restless practice.

“I was very proud to be a part of such a patriotic event, and I really enjoyed being able to march in this parade, especially during my last year as a member of the team,” senior Silk team member Eugenia Grimes said.

Marching in the parade gave students a sense of honor and respect for the country’s veterans and allowed them to be a part of a memorable and dignified event.

Some students also felt that their participation was a way of showing gratitude and giving back to the hard-working military veterans.
