Teacher of the Year

by:  Stephanie Martinez and Lisbeth Lopez

Mr. Bell has been teaching for ten years.  His first year of teaching was at Spruce High School.  Mr. Bell attended Prairie View A&M University of his B.S. in Electrical Engineering.  He began his M.S. degree in Electrical Engineering at Texas A&M University, College Station before being recruited by Texas Instruments in Dallas to manage its Wafer fab Equipment Engineering Operation.  He then enrolled into SMU's Graduate Program in Engineering Management; ultimately completing an MBA from Baylor University in the MBA Program for Executives.  Mr. Bell chose Electrical Engineering as a major for a very good reason.  "I chose Electrical Engineering as a major mainly because I was always good in math and science, and a friend of my brother's had recently graduated as an Electrical Engineer and had received multiple outstanding job offers with Fortune 500 companies," said Mr. Bell.

The field of education is strong among Mr. Bell's family members.  This was one of the reasons he chose teaching after his Engineering career.  Mr. Bell was born and raised in Texarkana, Texas.  His hobbies are traveling, reading, playing dominoes, hunting and fishing.  His greatest accomplishment was overcoming the loss of both parents at an early age.  "I lost my father at nine years old and my mother at age fifteen."

During Mr. Bell's nine years at Skyline, he has accomplished many things and has fond memories.  "My fondest memory of all time was when I was in the mall and a past student approached me with a big smile.  I didn't remember her name, but did recognize her face." "I inquired about how and what she was doing." She replied, "I'm graduating from TWU."  I then asked, "What's next?" Her face lit up and she said, "Mr. Bell, I've been accepted into medical school, and I thank you for encouraging me to dream big."

Traveling ranks high on Mr. Bell's summer agenda.  He has traveled extensively, but would love to got to Bora Bora, an island in French Polynesia.  If Mr. Bell could change one thing about the world we live in, he would encourage the people of the world to focus on loving and being kind to one another.
