Black Panther Movie Review
It’s no secret that the Marvel cinematic film “Black Panther” was much anticipated. This was proven when it became the top-grossing superhero film of all time in the U.S. It even accumulated over $700 million in only its second weekend making it record breaking. This raises eyebrows on how and why it is so popular among the public. It could be the plot and how Marvel is already a big franchise. It could also point to the big step in diversity in a major movie. It was directed by Ryan Coogler.
In the film, it begins with the main character, T’Challa. He has to take on a big role of being king of the African nation Wakanda, the setting where the movie takes place the majority of the time, after his father passed away. He has many responsibilities, but one he is focused on is catching a recurring villain, who his father meddles with when he was alive. He goes through big measures to catch him only to find out that he had been killed by a new villain that he now has to worry about. Although, it is argued that the new villian, Killmonger, is misunderstood and has a compelling backstory to why he is the way he is. With this new villain, T’Challa is tested with many difficulties. Even the people that he is leading are divided into sides of what they think is right or wrong.
After watching this movie, my thoughts came to be that I wanted to watch it again and how great it was to see people of color being the lead roles to major production film. Especially seeing woman of color playing powerful warriors. The plot was interesting and kept me immersed in the movie. It never had a boring moment. The fight scenes were just as intense as you would expect. The movie effects were of high quality, of course coming from a Marvel movie.
The film also had a good soundtrack. The songs went along to every scene and it fitted well. Of course, the public was very excited for the soundtrack because of the fact that Kendrick Lamar had produced the album for the movie. It also had major features including The Weeknd and SZA. To further prove that the soundtrack is popular, many of the songs were played over the radio.
Overall, I would recommend the movie to anyone who enjoys action packed superhero movies. Even I, who hardly watches superhero movies, thoroughly enjoyed it. It even interested me into wanting to watch more Marvel movies. I also hope this movie leads us into making more major production films with more diverse roles.
