The Skyline Raider Band attended UIL competition at Kincaide Stadium, on October 17, where they received Superior ratings.
Preparation for the UIL show started in August during band camp. The show included a mixture of core and show style. Music included “The House of Cards” Movement I and II.
It has been 25 years since the Raider Band received Superior ratings at a UIL competition.
After head director William Young told the exciting news to the band members, they were overjoyed.
“Skyline hasn’t received superior rating in 25 years. I felt honored to be here to witness and be a part of the band as we receive superior ratings,” senior and tenor drum player Christopher Crear said.
It was a major accomplishment to the seniors. They have worked hard since their freshman year and their goal was finally achieved.
It also couldn’t have been done without the hard work of Mr. Young (band director) and Billy Pruitt (assistant band director).
“I was very pleased and overwhelmed that the band put in long and hours and dedication. Sacrifice was made,” Mr. Young said.
A part from receiving superior ratings at marching UIL competition, another goal is to make superior ratings at concert UIL.
Mr. Young and Mr. Pruitt are also hoping band students make All City, All Region, and qualify 30 students or more for State UIL Solo and Ensemble this year.
