Ms. Karla Patterson-Calloway, former librarian of Anson Jones elementary, is now the new librarian here at Skyline.
“I wanted to come to Skyline to have a new experience working with secondary students,” she said. Though she has been working in education for 10 years, this is Ms. Patterson-Calloway’s first year working in a high school.
She found out about the open position after the former librarian, Mrs. Connor, took another position in Cedar Hill.
Ms. Patterson-Calloway says what she enjoys most about being a librarian is the ability to assist teachers and students with a variety of tasks, and having creative freedom on the job.
Ms. Patterson-Calloway’s goal for the library is to make it a more “café-styled” atmosphere. She would like to see more computers and laptops be installed in the library to give it a more cyber-café feel and provide students with easier access to information throughout the library.
She says that her experience working at Skyline has been a joy so far, and that the independence of the students, along with the help of Ms. Horner has made her job easier and very enjoyable.

Ms. Patterson-Calloway is looking forward to participating in many new library activities such as “Teen Read Week”, “Read One, Leave One” and being a co-sponsor of the Skyline Library Club.
Her motto is, “Education is the key to opening many doors; the more education you have, the more opportunities you create.”
